Arrived

After a very idle sojourn in Dubai Airport we boarded the plane for Kolkata.  Most of the passengers were young single guys, presumably migrant workers returning home. The gate staff made a valiant attempt to impose order but were overcome by the stampede. The Airbus used for this flight compared poorly with the 777 used out of Glasgow. Disintegrating seats, minimal legroom and constant vibration made for an uncomfortable flight. But the food was good - Chicken Biryani followed by Gulab Jamuns.

Kolkata's new airport terminal is very smart, although the mosquitoes have already successfully colonised the baggage hall. The pre paid taxi system worked well and we were soon lodged in a yellow Ambassador heading for downtown. Our driver was the strong silent type who specialised in right hand turns fron the left hand gutter. A few shrieks (from R) and a minor collision later we were at the Fairlawn. This year we have a room off the eclectically furnished residents Lounge, smaller than some but with all that we need. Just time for a beer and supper before last orders is called.
